Window Sash Repairs

Regularly inspect the window sashes for damage, mildew, and mold. You can save future repair costs by catching the issues in the early stages, before they become out of control.

The sash is an interior frame that is vertically moved up or down in windows that open. This article will teach you how to make several simple sash repairs.

Weather Stripping

Wood window sashes give an elegant look to your home. When properly maintained, can last for many years. However, they can become damaged or degrade as time passes because of exposure to the elements and wear and tear. Sash Weights

Measure the length of sash chain/sash cord needed to reach the sash slot on the bottom, and the pulley on the top of the jamb. Cut the cord or chain and then secure it in Step 6 above. You can use either a hammer, nails, or screws. However nails are less likely to cause damage.

If you don't have an item that replaces the counterbalance system that was in place before, it's recommended to keep the original weights for balancing in place. They're not costly and simple to install if you purchase them at architectural salvage stores. Based on the size of your window, two or three sash weights may be needed to keep it open.
